Ez Sez

Some die hard readers of the blog have suggested that I write a column. Who the audience would be for that, I have no idea. But if I ever did write a column, I would want it to be like Ezra Dyer's.

I love Ezra's writing in the Improper Bostonian. He is witty and intelligent and I enjoy reading his column Ez Sez. It usually makes me chuckle out loud.

In the latest Improper Bostonian he wrote an article about the crappy music that is taking over and how there's a lack of creativity amongst current artists. He discusses how record sales are down, and that the number one record in 2007 would have been #14 in 2000. He goes on to say "There are lots of theories about why this would be the case, most of them centering on the idea that the Internet is killing the music business. But I think I know the real reason, one that nobody ever seems to mention: new music sucks."

To go along with his witty nature, the article was entitled "Cold in Herre."

I wanted to link to the article, either through the Improper Bostonian or his website but neither contained the article. So here are some of my favorite parts.

"..there's an amazing lack of creativity among contemporary artists. Consider these four songs from last year's Billboard Hot 100: "Shawty" "Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin')" "Get It Shawty" and "Shortie Like Mine" (I apologize if there are errors in the remainder of this column, as the previous sentence broke my spell-checker despite its relatively shawt length.)"

"Also making the Hot 100 were Fergie's "Glamorous" and "Fergalicious" which I'm pretty sure are the same song." hahahahahahah

"Besides the musical herd mentality, hereafter referred to as Shawty Syndrome, I have a few other theories behind the suckiness of current music. For one thing, the digital synthesizer-voice gimmick needs to stop. Back in the day, this trick only popped up occasionally, such as on Cher's Believe and say, every Daft Punk song."

The article has other really funny points so if you're in the Boston area I suggest you pick up the issue to read the rest of the article.

I heart Ez Sez.
