I usually consider myself a cold weather person. I much rather a blizzard than a heat wave. I rather wind chill than humidity. My reasoning is that everyone has heat and blankets, not everyone has air conditioning. It's easy to warm up next to a fire with some hot coco. It's easy to warm up with a hot shower and a cozy sweatshirt. In the summer, when it's humid, 10 minutes after you shower you're sweating once again. I hate being hot. I hate being sweaty.
But today has made me almost change my stance. I think I can deal with large amounts of snow because I have a SUV with 4-wheel drive. While others cringe at snow piles, I plow right through them.
But an SUV with 4-wheel drive is great in snow. Not ice.
Yesterday's snowfall ended in freezing rain which is a baaaad mix. The snow all turned to slush which then froze as the temperature dropped. Nice fluffy snow turned into concrete over night.
This morning my car was basically frozen solid. I couldn't get any doors open except the back, passenger side door. This resulted in my catapulting my 6 foot body, gangly limbs and all, over the front seat and vestibule. Once I got my car started, I started chipping away at the inch or so of ice that was on my windshield. Once that was clear, I got into my car, put that puppy into 4-wheel drive
and...
didn't move. See, 4-wheel drive doesn't help with ice. Since my car had been in a pond of slush the night before, my car was now on a frozen pond. 4-wheel drive doesn't make traction. I spun my wheels a few times and then stopped as I heard my father yelling at me in my head.
I thought, "I'll just wait till the ice melts this afternoon." and called up a co-worker to pick me up on their way to work.
When I got home I again chipped my way into my car, got behind the wheel, turn it on, shoved it into 4-wheel drive and again moved no where! I had to call a tow truck to come and pull me out of my spot! The annoying thing is it took about 25 seconds to get out once the tow truck gave me a little boost!
So humid weather is looking pretty good to me right about now!
