In my class we've been discussing location and place, a kind of building block to understanding maps later on. First we spoke about our bedrooms as a place and then our houses. This week we've been practicing our addresses and learning about what makes up a town. We started a class mural that we added onto as we discussed towns.

We started with roads and then added houses. Yesterday we brainstormed an extensive list of other buildings in a town: post office, fire department, banks, schools, stores etc.

Then, trying to be a teacher who encourages creativity: I let them choose to make any of the buildings. The results are a riot. In our town we have 2 Targets, a Toy R Us, 3 Hospitals, 2 Fire Departments, 3 banks, 2 schools, a church and a mall.
However, there is no post office, police station or grocery store. Hopefully Target will be the all in one store we need!

Maybe it's a Target Greatland!
Seriously, you are the BEST teacher.
Does Pockets have a home or does he just travel around? Is there no place for him to just chill out?
